Deicide - The Stench Of Redemption - 2006

The Hoffman Brothers era of Deicide is hit and miss. The first two albums are legendary slabs of diabolical Death Metal. The third and fourth outings are solid offerings, but not on par with the debut and sophomore efforts. Albums number five and six are steaming piles of disgusting alligator shit. And while the seventh and final album with the Hoffmans was a step back in the right direction, it still wasn’t quite what it should be, which was made painfully obvious by a cringe-worthy song title like “Mad at God”. So redemption was much needed by Benton and Asheim by the time the Hoffman boys got the boot, and what an excellent return to form it was! The Stench of Redemption reminded us that Deicide could still create carnage in the temple of the damned.
