Slaughter – Strappado - 1987

In the spirit of giving any particular band only one chance to shine on this list, we have to set aside Scream Bloody Gore and let Strappado step to the forefront. Chuck jammed with these guys so he’d definitely approve of this choice. In 1987 there wasn’t a lot of selection among Death Metal bands, but Slaughter certainly knew how to bring the riffs and left a lasting impression. There is no denying that they helped to establish the design for what Death Metal would eventually become, but more than that Strappado stands on its own two legs. It is an impressive snapshot of the moment in time when Thrash was transitioning into full-fledged Death Metal.
